REVIEW. TASTE OF THE COUNTRY.

DARTMOOR, ENGLAND.

Fifty-six guests from the UK and Switzerland made their way to Dartmoor in mid-May for the first of a series of 2017 BMW i Pure Impulse scenic drive events in some of the world’s most spectacular locations.

After guests arrived at Bovey Castle, a five-star property in the heart of Dartmoor National Park which has recently had a thorough refurbishment, they were greeted by Gary Lewington, National Sales Manager, BMW and BMW i in the UK during a welcome reception.

The group then attended a briefing for the following day’s scenic drive before the evening ended over a private dinner at the hotel’s Great Western restaurant.

On Saturday after breakfast it was time for guests to leave for the scenic drive – an exciting, 70-mile long route took them through the stunning moors of Dartmoor. Drivers immensely enjoyed the challenging roads, the breathtaking scenery and were not even fazed when they had to stop to let sheep or wild Exmoor ponies cross the road in front of them.

The stunning Ugbrooke House and Gardens served as the day’s lunch venue. A tour of the house and picturesque grounds was also on the schedule. Guests were treated to an afternoon coffee or tea straight from a vintage 1960s VW camper van.

That evening, a very special experience awaited. In the late afternoon, mini busses took the group to the famous River Cottage, the headquarters of popular TV personality, cook and author Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. From the car park, a tractor and trailer ferried guests to the farm, where they were warmly welcomed by staff and attended a demonstration of cured meats.

The group was then led around the farm, before they indulged in an exquisite four-course dinner, including a sumptuous slow-cooked pork shoulder, with several guests claiming this was one of the best – if not the best – meal they have ever had.

On Sunday, an early morning guided tour of Bovey Castle’s extensive grounds – the 19th century mansion sits within 275 acres of rolling hills and peaceful countryside – was a perfect conclusion to a wonderful weekend in the South West.
