ALTHOFF GRANDHOTEL SCHLOSS BENSBERG.
The famous Palace of Versailles and Winchester Castle served as models for the beautiful Baroque palace that today houses Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg. Originally ordered by Prince-Elector Johann Wilhelm II of Düsseldorf as a retreat for his second wife Maria-Luisa in the early 1700s, the royal couple never made use of their “Rhenish Versailles”. Instead, it served as a military hospital, cadet school, boarding school and refugee centre over the centuries prior to becoming a five-star luxury retreat. Its breathtaking views over Cologne, 1,000 square metre day spa and world-class dining options – including three-Michelin-star restaurant Vendôme – still attracts royalty, now from of the world of music and film, such as Lady Gaga, Robbie Williams and Paul McCartney.
