Personal touches – a ceramic fish here, a local artwork there – from the hand of a master hotelier fill the original chic boutique seaside hotel in the idyllic fishing village of St Mawes, Cornwall. Olga Polizzi, sister of Rocco Forte and director of design for the hotel group of the same name, is behind Hotel Tresanton and her eye allows the establishment – set within the buildings of a 1940s yacht club – to be both fashionable and homely at the same time. With sea views from each of the 30 rooms, a Mediterranean-style Beach Club just above the waterline, a classic yacht available for skippered trips and menus based on locally caught seafood, the wonderful coastal setting is inescapable. Guests can explore the stunning and slightly mysterious Cornish scenery – the legend of King Arthur has a long association with the area – and return to this relaxed and personal retreat from which to gaze at the sea and stars.
