THE AMERICAS. RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL.
DESIGN HOTELS™ – CHEZ GEORGES.
Many of the design pieces inside Chez Georges – a seven-suite villa and separate two-bedroom recording studio set on a hilltop in Rio de Janeiro’s lush Santa Teresa neighbourhood – are mementos of the owners’ travels together. Italian Murano opalines and a limited edition Marc Jacobs surfboard, for example, add dashes of colour, alongside the azulejo mosaics in many of the bathrooms. This is offset by the villa’s stark architecture – from Wladimir Alves de Souza, one of the key architects of Brazilian modernism – combining raw concrete, exotic wood, high white walls and soaring ceilings. The interiors are also complemented by handpicked furniture from European antique markets and midcentury modern works, including pieces from Ricardo Fasanello’s local atelier in Santa Teresa, a bohemian neighbourhood of artists and galleries. The villa’s recording studio and the instruments in the entertainment room capture this musical spirit, while views to the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain open the property up to the rhythms of the city beyond.
