DESIGN HOTELS™ - CHETZERON.
Once an abandoned cable car station high on the slopes of Crans-Montana, the externally austere, gray-stone Chetzeron, blending into the surrounding Alpine peaks, was transformed by Swiss Lebanese hotelier Sami Lamaa. Floor-to-ceiling glass panes now cover the cavernous mouth of the former gondola station, offering sweeping vistas from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc which can also be enjoyed from the large windows with perches in the hotel’s 16 rooms, or the three levels of terraces dotted with loungers and sheepskins. The structure has also been built with energy management in mind, and features photovoltaic panels, a pellet-fired boiler and heat-recovery technology. The resort may only be reached by foot, ski or snowmobile, but its restaurant with a refined take on Alpine cuisine and its cosy and luxuriously appointed rooms are sure to provide a warm welcome to all who head up to its 2,112-metre pinnacle.
