Just two weeks into the new year, the 2017 BMW i Pure Impulse event program kicked off with a highlight: a three-day winter driving experience in the magnificent Austrian Alps.

More than 30 guests from the UK, Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands arrived at the stunning Aqua Dome thermal spa resort in Sölden on Friday afternoon.

After a welcome reception, where guests had the chance to get to know each other, a theoretical introduction about winter driving dynamics followed. A five-course gourmet dinner then was a perfect conclusion to the first evening.

On Saturday, it was time to put the theory into practice. BMW i Pure Impulse members made their way to the valley training site, where they spent an exciting day in the snow, learning how to drift and perform slaloms and emergency braking in wintry conditions. The knowledgeable BMW Driving Experience instructors encouraged the guests to push themselves and the cars to the limit whilst at the same time ensuring they always felt safe.

A buffet dinner with delicious Tyrolean specialties warmed bellies after hours outside in temperatures well into the negative teens. Several guests also chose to make use of the 22.000 sq m spa area – the biggest in Austria – at the hotel in the afternoon.

A snowcat took guests up to the mountain training site on Sunday for another exhilarating day of driving training. The highlight was a race in BMW i8’s where members could put their newly acquired skills to the test against each other.

The first 2017 event concluded with a short farewell ceremony, where guests received certificates from the driving instructors as a reminder of their participation in the winter driving program.
