REVIEW. BEHIND THE LENS.

DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY.

On a bright April day, the 32 car photography masterclass attendees arrived at the Elegant Elephant former-factory-turned-studio in Düsseldorf for a day of tips, tricks and techniques from behind the camera.

Coming from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands and the UK, the BMW i Pure Impulse members were introduced to renowned lensman Oliver Paffrath and his team, before learning how exterior and interior car photography works in two workshops.

While a barista kept energy levels high with a supply of coffee specialities during the event, guests were given into insights into the diverse settings, different lighting effects and changing angles that go into a professional shoot. Furthermore, they were given advice and recommendations for everyday photographers to take away with them.

After a late afternoon of exploring Düsseldorf, the BMW i Pure Impulse members reconvened for dinner with both a special location and surprise. Oliver Paffrath attended the delicious four-course dinner at Lido Hafen restaurant, set beautifully on a bridge overlooking the harbour area.

He had also taken a photo of the BMW i8 Roadster during the masterclass and subsequently edited – and a printout of this professional image was handed over to the guests during dinner. The attendees were pleased to have the opportunity to ask Oliver Paffrath to sign it, before the meal finished and they headed back to the Hyatt Regency Düsseldorf to continue their interesting discussions into the night.
