REVIEW. ON THE SEAFARERS’ TRAIL: LISBON SAILING ACADEMY.

LISBON, PORTUGAL.

While temperatures cooled across central Europe, those with a sailor’s spirit headed west for late September sun sparkling on Lisbon’s Tagus River. Arriving with a passion for the water and leaving with seafarers’ skills thanks to two days at the BMW Sailing Academy, BMW i Pure Impulse members from across Europe and North America experienced the best of the Portuguese capital.

For those guests heading out on the boats, theory sessions with sailing tactics and vocabulary were balanced by on-water practicing of manoeuvres on the first day, all culminating in a series of exciting races on the final afternoon. While they were learning the ropes, their accompanying partners enjoyed a delicious culinary tour of Lisbon’s old town, taking in the striking tastes, sights and views.

The second day’s racing action gave the sailors an opportunity to put the teaching from the excellent instructors into practice – and cheered on by their partners from the dock, they set out across the water. But in the end, there could only be one winner!

During a farewell dinner, where traditional Portuguese dishes were served, the top team was announced, and prizes were handed out as a memento of this fun weekend full of sailing, sun and southern European flair.
